Company History
- 1973: A 102ft fishing boat was purchased by Mike Jones in the Philippines to pursue a dream to be a fisherman.
- 1975: After two years of fishing and struggling to break even, Mike realized that commercial fishing was not what he had imagined. However, he was approached by a Japanese TV program called "11pm" who requested to charter his boat for diving, which ended up being a success and sparking a new direction for his business. Decisions were made, plans were drawn, and a retrofit was underway.
Fishing equipment was removed and six air-conditioned cabins were added to the top deck to accommodate 12 guests on a wild adventure.
The result was the SeaQuest, a fishing boat turned into an expedition vessel and the first long-range liveaboard in the Philippines. Today, the name SeaQuest still resonates around Southeast Asia as an iconic vessel that inspired many in the industry to pursue their passion for the ocean.
Fan Fact
When trying to come up with a name for this newly retrofitted boat and her maiden voyage, Mike pulled inspiration from the 1975 western film "The Quest" as well as the popular TV Series "SeaHunt".
- 1981: Island Adventure was founded by Mike Jones as a local dive tour operator based in Manila and Batangas, Philippines.
- Jun-1991: Mt. Pinatubo erupts. This event destroyed the dive operation and pushed the Jones family to relocate to the United States.
- Jan-1999: Island & Cruise Adventure Inc. was founded by Mike Jones as a Global dive travel operator based in Southern CA.
- Jun-2003: The business is continued by Mike's wife Yasuko Jones as President, and son Ken Jones as Vice President.
- Jan-2025: Island & Cruise Adventure celebrates 51 years in business (26 years in America)
